September 24, 2021

Dear Madeira Families,

On Friday, September 24, the Independent School League (ISL), made the following announcement regarding a league requirement for vaccination and testing for winter sports participation. Madeira and our fellow athletic league competitors are bound by the ISL rules.

September 2021 ISL New Requirement:

In an effort to best protect our student-athletes and individual school communities, the Independent School League will be requiring all student-athletes participating in league-sponsored winter sports to be fully vaccinated on or before November 10, the start date of the winter season. School-authorized vaccination exemptions will be honored.

As we prepare to move indoors, requiring our student-athletes to be vaccinated is a crucial step in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and minimizing disruptions to competitive seasons and in-person learning. In addition, the ISL will expect schools to commit to weekly COVID-19 PCR testing for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals as another step to mitigate risk. The ISL is committed to our mission of creating a robust competitive athletic experience for our student athletes that also prioritizes their health and safety.

Internally, we have been engaged in these ISL conversations and have concurrently been designing this testing protocol as well as identifying the financial implications of this decision. In the coming weeks we will provide additional communication about that plan. In the meantime, knowing this new requirement for winter sports (and possibly for spring sports as well), please converse with your daughter about her health situation and athletic selections.
