Boarding Students Taking Public Transportation

Saturday, August 22

If you will be taking a plane, train, bus, taxi, rideshare, subway, etc. during your trip to Madeira, you will arrive on August 22.  Because of the possibility for exposure to the virus during your trip, your arrival plans are a bit different.

  • Negative COVID-19 test should be dated no earlier than August 15

  • Students will initially all be in single rooms during this observation and monitoring period (If both roommates are arriving on this day, one will move into a temporary room.)

  • Specific parameters for this period (i.e. meals and activities) will be informed by the most current public health guidelines at the time

  • Students in this group may also choose to check in on campus on August 22 and then stay locally with a parent or guardian.  They must self-quarantine while off campus during this time and must return to campus on Saturday, August 29 for move-in

  • We strongly encourage students who are traveling with a parent or have a local guardian with whom they can stay to arrive in the area on Friday, August 21 if they are able to do so.  This will facilitate assigning some students a morning move-in time slot and ensure that students with evening flight arrivals do not miss their arrival appointment.

  • Assigned arrival times will be between the hours of 11:00am and 5:45pm

  • On Saturday, August 29 (after students have been re-tested for COVID-19) any student who has tested negative and is not already in her permanent dorm room will move there.
